Express Entry

What is Express Entry(EE)

Express Entry is a points-based immigration system introduced by the Government of Canada to manage and streamline the selection process for skilled workers who wish to become permanent residents.

There are 3 immigration programs managed through Express Entry:

Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class(CEC) is designed for individuals who have gained skilled work experience in Canada and wish to transition to permanent residency.

Federal Skilled Worker

The Federal Skilled Worker(FSW) program is designed for individuals with skilled work experience who wish to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents.

Federal Skilled Trades

The Federal Skilled Trades(FST) program is designed for individuals with experience in skilled trades who wish to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents.

Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS)

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the points-based system we use to assess and score your profile and rank you in the Express Entry pool.The points you get from the CRS include a core set of points up to 600 and a set of additional points of up to 600.

Your total score will be out of 1,200.

  • Human capital factors(Age, Education, Languages, Canadian work experience)
  • Spouse or common-law partner factors, (their language skills, Education, Canadian work experience)
  • Skills transferability (Education and work experience)

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian Experience Class program is aimed at retaining skilled workers who have contributed to the Canadian labor market and wish to settle permanently in Canada. It provides a pathway to permanent residency for individuals who have demonstrated their ability.

Requirements

  • minimum of 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) paid skilled work experience in Canada and within the 3 years before applying
  • gained work experience with the proper work authorization
  • skilled work experience within any occupation in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 of the NOC
  • 30 hours per week for 12 months or 15 hours per week for 24 months

Your test results must be less than two years old when you submit your application for permanent residence.

Federal Skilled Worker(FSW)

The Federal Skilled Worker program is aimed at attracting skilled workers who have the education, work experience, language proficiency, and other qualities needed to contribute to the Canadian economy and society. It provides a pathway to permanent residency for individuals who meet the eligibility criteria and are selected through the Express Entry system.

Requirements

  • skilled work experience within any occupation in TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 of the NOC
  • be in the same type of job (have the same NOC) as the job you want to use for your immigration application (called your primary occupation)
  • at least 1 year of continuous work within the last 10 years, in Canada or abroad

If you meet all the minimum requirements, we’ll assess your eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program based on:

  • age
  • education
  • work experience
  • whether you have a valid job offer
  • English or French language skills
  • adaptability (how well you’re likely to settle here)

Based on how well you do in each of the 6 factors, we’ll assign you an overall score out of 100.

The current pass mark is 67 points.

These points are different from the points we use to rank your profile in the Express Entry pool.

Federal Skilled Trades(FST)

The Federal Skilled Trades program is aimed at attracting individuals with skills and experience in trades that are in demand in Canada. It provides a pathway to permanent residency for skilled tradespeople who meet the eligibility criteria and are selected through the Express Entry system.

Requirements

    • have at least 2 years of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work experience) in a skilled trade within the 5 years before you apply
    • meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
    • show that you performed the duties listed in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC, including
      • all the essential duties
      • most of the main duties

    Your work experience must be in one of the following NOC groups:

    • Major Group 72, technical trades and transportation officers and controllers
      • excluding Sub-Major Group 726, transportation officers and controllers
    • Major Group 73, general trades
    • Major Group 82, supervisors in natural resources, agriculture and related production
    • Major Group 83, occupations in natural resources and related production
    • Major Group 92, processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors, and utilities operators and controllers
    • Major Group 93, central control and process operators and aircraft assembly assemblers and inspectors, excluding Sub-Major Group 932, aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
    • Minor Group 6320, cooks, butchers and bakers
    • Unit Group 62200, chefs
  • meet the CLB of 5 for speaking and listening, and the CLB 4 for reading and writing
